"Melanin is an incomparable beauty. From the lightest to the darkest skin tone, Black women and Black girls are exquisite beauty in every shade" - Stephanie Lahart. I have an undeniable passion for modeling and my goal is to make my dream a reality. On this journey I'll take you with me where I'll be sharing tips on being confident in your own skin and body type along with my experiences as I build this portfolio. I will make it my priority to make this blog be your one stop shop for everything you need to know on being consistent for myself and any other beauty enthusiast keeping that melanin popping!

MINI PROTFOLIO

Hi! my name is Rachel Seaton and I'm from Kingston, Jamaica. I attended the Merl Grove High School for 5 years where I graduated in the class of 2016. I chose to continue my schooling for Lower 6th form at the St. Georges College for the year 2017. However I am now a student of the University of Technology where I will be doing a four year course for a Bachelor of Business Administration.

My personality.

I am distinctively known among my friends, families and social media followers to be a "beauty guru". I love my natural hair, my skin and my body and I embrace them everyday."Black skin is not a badge of shame but rather a glorious symbol of natural greatness" - Marcus Garvey. The love for my hair and skin is the reason I even decided to start this blog. I believe we were all made perfect in the eyes of God and we should all appreciate it.

During my time growing up like any other dark skin girl, I faced racial prejudice and discrimination. I had such low self esteem at the time that I allowed it to affect me to the point where I started doubting myself saying "Ohh maybe I'm not pretty enough" or "My skin is too dark", "My hair is too kinky" But then as I grew older I started to see how beautifully made I was. I learnt to accept my flaws, we all have them. However, instead of speaking negatively about them I started to embrace them. I have gained so much self love that I felt motivated to help others in anyway possible. And this! is what inspired me to start modeling and as my experiences in the industry grew I developed a deep passion for it. I love the camera, it makes me feel like a whole new person all over again. I decided to start my own model portfolio because I want it to represent my authentic beauty and true ethnicity. I believe that some model agencies try to make you into a product/ brand that insults who you really are just so that its meets our modern day societal expectations. I want an agency who I can represent proudly and feel confident in doing so.

I started this blog to help others love and appreciate theirs the way I do mine and to share my experiences in the model industry. I really hope this blog will be very beneficial to you guys. Now, with that being said, communicate with me! Don't leave my blog hanging. I'd really love to build a relationship with you all so let me know your favourite parts.

My Hair Care Regimen

DIY Raw Black Soap Shampoo

It's perfect for cleansing the hair especially if you have a lot of product build up. Black soap can be drying to the hair so I would recommend pairing it with any oil of yor choice. Coconut oil is my favourite oil to use.

DIY Shae Butter Cream

Okay, so I have been using this DIY Shae Butter mix ever since I started my hair care journey. It is amazing! My hair loves it. It gives bomb braid out and twist out results. I do used the LOC method though because I find that my hair stays moisturised for the week with this method than any other.

How to own it!

Step 1

Confidence is like a muscle, the more you use it the stronger it gets. Self- confidence can be something some people have always had. However, as for others its something they have to develop. But either way, the moment you discover it, you dominate!

Step 2

Believe in what you're about. Having self-confidence is one but believing in what you want to achieve is another. It's more than just being picture perfect, it about making a statement of whatever it is you're representing. And only if you believe, others will be able to
read it too.

Step 3

Have fun. Use your imaginations. However you picture yourself in your head, that's how you should let the camera picture you. So, live in that moment. Be the person you see in your imaginations. Have the amount of fun she's having. Relax your muscles, breathe and lose yourself in the camera.

Staying Motivated

Avoiding Negativity

Some people are like clouds. When they disappear its a brighter day. Striving without there being an ounce of negativity is almost impossible. But as the saying goes, out of every bad thing there is a good. Therefore, instead of getting demotivated and insecure about yourself based on negative comments, let it empower you! because the best revenge you can have on someone is proving them wrong. Never allow someone to make you feel worthless or not good enough. Don't doubt yourself, because you're more amazing than you think. Believe in yourself even when no one else does. Seek validation from no one! because you'll always have someone who disagrees. The most important thing is that you keep going, build yourself, believe in your goals and do what you have to do to be who you want to be. In this industry, no one cares about you being insecure. What these agencies want, is confidence and personality, so the rest about staying motivated, that's on you! work for what you want; especially if that means just working on yourself. DO IT! don't ever sit and expect hand outs. Get up! and Go get it!
